Buyer - Retail

Come Grow Your Career With Us! Capitol City Produce is looking for a Buyer - Retail to work hand in hand with our Category Manager for Retail.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase and replenish produce and related items for retail and foodservice accounts,
    • maintaining targeted fill rates while minimizing spoilage and excess inventory.
    ● Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with retail and foodservice
    customers to support open communication, item decisions and promotional planning.
    ● Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and growers; negotiate
    pricing, terms and programs that support quality, service and profitability objectives.
    ● Evaluate supply chain components, including product cost, freight, quality, supplier
    reliability and innovation when awarding business.
    ● Set up new items and discontinue obsolete items in coordination with Sales, Marketing
    and Operations.
    ● Monitor market trends, quality conditions, seasonality and new product opportunities
    relevant to assigned categories.
    ● Prepare purchase orders (POs), ensure PO accuracy (costs, quantities, dates), and
    resolve discrepancies between purchase orders, receiving documents and invoices.
    ● Monitor movement and turns of assigned items across warehouses and customer
    segments, adjusting orders and inbound routes as needed to support service and
    freshness.
    ● Partner with vendors and Sales to identify and execute promotional and ad
    opportunities for retail and foodservice customers, ensuring correct pricing and
    pass-throughs.
    ● Proactively communicate issues and opportunities (supply gaps, quality concerns,
    market changes) to customers, Sales and internal stakeholders.
    ● Help minimize shrink and waste through effective purchasing, rotation awareness and
    timely problem resolution.
    Requirements:
  • Preferred: One to three years of progressively responsible procurement experience in a
    • food-related industry, preferably supporting retail supermarkets or food service or
    comparable experience
    ● Excellent with common business software, preferably Google Suites
    ● Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
    ● Strong analytical and decision-making skills
    ● Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task
